Liverpool are undefeated in their three matches at home in this tournament having recorded two consecutive wins and one draw as the hosts.

Meanwhile, Rangers were thrashed 3-0 by Italian club SSC Napoli at home in their previous game in the Champions League on September 14.

The Scottish football powerhouse are winless in their last two matches in this competition having recorded two defeats in a row.

Rangers have lost two of their last three away matches on the road in this tournament, while the other game ended in a win over PSV of Holland.

“We will learn with every single game we play in the Champions League, if you see the comparison between the first game against Ajax and today, I think we played so much better, with so much intensity, so much character," Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst said

“I think we learned from the game last week, the level, the speed of thinking needs to go up. I think we equalled that today when 11 against 11. The quality Napoli has with one extra, it was very difficult for us. We wanted to stay in the game longer.

"But the first goal made us change the personnel. You have to always end with 11 in Europe, otherwise it’s a difficult task. Of course, you’re always concerned when you concede too many goals, but every defeat is a defeat," he continued.

“The manner of the defeat today was different to the first two defeats. But in the end, it’s still a defeat, and we cannot accept three defeats in a row.”

This will be the first-ever competitive meeting between Liverpool and Rangers.
