Rory McIlroy will chase a record-extending fifth tournament triumph at the PGA Tour’s Truist Championship, set for the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, from Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 May 2026.
The 37-year-old is a four-time winner of this tournament, having claimed the title in 2010, 2015, 2021 and 2024.
After winning the Masters Tournament, for a second successive year, in April, McIlroy took a four-week hiatus and will be returning to competitive action at the Truist Championship.
Formerly known as the Wells Fargo Championship, this tournament has been a mainstay on the PGA Tours for many years, and has the additional status of being a Signature Event.
Quail Hollow is renowned for its closing holes, 16, 17 and 18, which are dubbed 'the Green Mile'. They make for one of the most testing finishing stretches in the world of golf.
The par-three 17th hole might be the toughest of the three, with players required to carry their ball 190 yards over a large body of water.
"I think 17 is the most difficult of the closing stretch," McIlroy said. "Especially off that back tee, you're raised up and you've got that very skinny green. You're looking down on it, and you've got the water on your left. There's a bit of a bailout area on the right. I'd say that's the only hole that you can sort of play defence on."
The main threat to McIlroy’s hopes of a fifth Truist Championship title will come from Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young, defending champion Sepp Straka and Justin Rose, while world No1 Scottie Scheffler has chosen to skip this event as he targets the upcoming PGA Championship.
