Max Verstappen will be keen to maintain his scintillating form and successfully defend the Monaco Grand Prix on May 29.

The Red Bull Racing-RBPT driver was unstoppable at last season's Monaco Grand Prix as he won the race having dominated it.

Verstappen's defence of the Formula One world title is on track as he recorded his third successive win he won the recent Spanish Grand Prix on May 22.

The Hasselt-born driver, who is the son of former Formula One driver Jos Verstappen, capitalised on Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc's costly engine failure to win a dramatic race in Spain.

His teammate Sergio Perez and Mercedes driver George Russell finished second and third respectively in what was the sixth round of the current season.

Verstappen climbed to the top of the 2022 Drivers' Championship standings for the first time and he will be looking to maintain his lead until the end of the campaign.

Leclerc and Perez are placed second and third respectively in the standings as the race for the world title intensifies heading into the Monaco Grand Prix.

Verstappen reflected on the Spanish Grand Prix and he admitted that he enjoyed his battle with Russell before he went on to win the race.

“Of course I was a bit frustrated at the time because I couldn’t get [Russell] because of DRS issues, but the fight itself was really cool also," Verstappen said.

"I think that lap where I did go down the outside and George went around the outside and I was around the outside of Turn 3 again, I think that was a really cool fight.

“I look back at it and I’ll smile now; at the time of course I was a little bit frustrated. But it was a really good and tough battle, I think.”

Red Bull Racing-RBPT are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Ferrari and Mercedes respectively.
