2021/22 English FA Cup

Final

Chelsea v Liverpool

Wembley Stadium
London, England
Saturday, 14 May 2022
Kick-off is at 17h45

Chelsea will be targeting a ninth FA Cup title when they take on Liverpool in the final of the oldest football competition in the world at Wembley on Saturday, May 14.

The Blues last lifted the trophy in 2018 when they beat Manchester United 1-0 courtesy of Eden Hazard's 22nd-minute penalty, although they also reached the final in 2020 and 2021.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs this season after they also contested EFL Cup final, which the Reds won 11-10 on penalties following a goalless draw after 120 minutes of football.

Thomas Tuchel's side had a fairly comfortable route to the final as they came up against just one fellow Premier League team in their five games.

Their journey started with a 5-1 thrashing of Chesterfield in the third round and the west London giants needed extra time to see off Plymouth 2-1 in the fourth round.

Luton gave them a brief scare in the fifth round after opening the scoring in the second minute, but the eight-time champions went on to emerge 3-2 victors.

Back-to-back 2-0 wins over Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace followed in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively to book their ticket to a 16th final appearance.

Tuchel is relishing his second trip to the final and he hopes to get the better of the Merseysiders this time around.

"We lost of course a final against them when we gave everything and it went until the very last penalty. We were unlucky and we want to turn things around," the German said.

"We were here last season in the FA Cup final and we will be here again. That means an unbelievable lot to us because it's the FA Cup, it's prestigious, the most traditional cup in the world and played at Wembley, so there are not a lot of bigger games to be part of.

"We will be well prepared because we play against one of the strongest teams in the world that have outstanding form. So it will be a tough one and we will try to make life hard for them."
