Villarreal will be looking to further consolidate their place in La Liga's top four when Europe-chasing Real Sociedad visits La Ceramica on Friday, March 20.

The Yellow Submarine has started to get itself back on course after a poor run of form in the opening month of the year, which saw them pick up just seven points out of a possible 15.

Marcelino's side won three of their five games in February, and they are unbeaten this month, but failed to keep pace with Atletico Madrid after dropping two points in a 1-1 draw at Alaves last time out.

Real Betis failed to take advantage, however, as they too drew 1-1 with Celta Vigo to remain 11 points behind the Castellon outfit in fifth place, with Los Colchoneros two points ahead of them in third spot.

Erreala boosted their European prospects after beating Osasuna 3-1 on March 15 to close within three points of Celta, who occupy the UEFA Conference League berth.

Pellegrino Matarazzo's side had narrowly lost 3-2 to Atleti the previous weekend, only to see the Sky Blues and Betis both fail to collect any points as well on matchday 27.

Their second win in three matches took the Basque club one point above Espanyol into seventh position after the Parakeets also slipped up against Real Mallorca (a 2-1 defeat).

Marcelino felt the stalemate at Mendizorroza was a fair reflection of the game after admitting the performance of his team didn't warrant all three points.

"It's a good result for us," he said. "We conceded very little at the back, but in terms of creating chances we struggled quite a bit, and we would have liked to have had more possession and control than we did.

"We came with the intention of winning, but the game gradually evened out. It was intense, difficult for the spectators to watch, and very competitive.

"We are happier with the result than with the performance because we already thought the match was lost and we managed to take a point.

"We didn't play at the level we should have, but Mendizorroza is always an extremely tough stadium, and it has always felt that way throughout my coaching career. The result is fair, and neither side deserved to win."
