Maverick Vinales will be one of the favourites to win the Argentine Grand Prix and it would be his second win in the South American country.

What to know about Vinales

The Spanish motorcycle racer has been competing in the MotoGP since 2015 having been crowned Moto3 world champion in 2013.

After five seasons as a MotoGP rider with Yamaha, the two-time third-place finisher on the Riders standings joined Aprilia in 2021.

Most recent race

Vinales got off to a decisive start, immediately earning positions on the early turns at the 2023 Portuguese MotoGP on March 26 having started on the seventh grid.

The 28-year-old was armed with a pace that allowed him to catch up to the leader and eventual race winner, Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati.

Why he could win the Argentine MotoGP

Vinales is familiar with the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo having won the 2017 Argentine Grand Prix on the same circuit.

The Figueres-born star has started the current season well and he will be confident of clinching his maiden win of the campaign in Termas de Río Hondo.

What did he say?

"This is a great result and I’m extremely proud of the work Aprilia is doing. Our bike is truly complete and competitive," Vinales said after the 2023 Portuguese MotoGP.

"But our goal is to stay out front, so we need to keep working this way, with a lot of grit, to improve even further. In the race, I tried to stay consistently close to Pecco, even when I dropped back to let my tyres cool and then close the gap again.

"I tried to keep the pressure on him all the way to the end and we finished really close, but he was good at not making any mistakes and not giving me any real openings to overtake. Now we’ll head to Argentina with lots of confidence".
