Chelsea look to give Everton the blues

2019/20 Premier League

Round 29

7-9 March 2020

Chelsea will be on the hunt for three key points in their quest to qualify for European club football next season when they host Everton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday 8 March 2020, kick-off at 16:00. The match is one of 10 spread from 7 to 9 March for the 29th round of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Everton forward Richarlison

Chelsea’s inconsistency continued this past weekend when they were held to a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, with a brace of goals from defender Marcos Alonso.

“I’m not sure (if it’s a point won or two dropped). I don’t care whether to put it in either box. There were elements of it you can say a point gained because of the character and the end when we were pushing but over the whole game, everything considered, we need to win the game,” said manager Frank Lampard.

Everton also played to a draw in their last league outing, as they were held 1-1 at home by Manchester United. Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his excellent form with another goal, though manager Carlo Ancelotti was red carded after protesting a controversial end in which the Toffees were denied an injury-time winner.

“It is not the first time and will not be the last [that he is sent off]. I never disrespected [the referee]. It can happen. At the end of the game I was a little bit nervous and maybe the referee was also,” said Ancelotti. “At the end of the game we spoke friendly. If I am banned, I will be disappointed but the stand at Stamford Bridge is near the dugout so I will be there.”

In head-to-head stats, Chelsea and Everton have met in 182 previous matches. The Blues have claimed 72 wins compared to 56 for the Toffees, while 54 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at Goodison Park in December 2019, Everton claimed a 3-1 home win thanks to goals from Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (two).
