Following a disappointing showing at the Austrian Grand Prix last time out, the vastly improved Lewis Hamilton will hope to reignite his sparkling form at home when Formula 1 returns to Silverstone this weekend.

Prior to the Austrian Grand Prix, where Hamilton could only manage P5, the Englishman noted three consecutive podium finishes including his impressive win at the Barcelona Grand Prix on 14 June.

Sitting on four podiums and one victory overall so far this season, the seven-time world champion holds third position in the drivers' standings with 125 points.

Hamilton rolled back the years at Barcelona but was unable to maintain his pace in Austria, largely due to rear tyre difficulties alongside partner Charles Leclerc.

While hot conditions made for an interesting strategy battle at the Red Bull Ring, Ferrari shifted Hamilton to a three-stop plan which failed to work out in the end.

Ferrari thus used the virtual safety car to introduce new hards after their second-stint on the strategy but ultimately failed to close the gap on fourth placed Oscar Piastri.

"I was on the attack, obviously I got past Charles and I thought it wasn't looking too bad in the first few laps," Hamilton said.

"With George [Russel], I was kind of holding on for a second and then the rears just dropped off on every set [of tyres]. For some reason, the balance was very difficult.  We just couldn't keep up with everyone today."

Nonetheless, Hamilton remains the undisputed king of Silverstone, winning at home on nine occasions with the last being in 2024.
