With Germany gearing up to face Portugal in the semi-finals of the
UEFA Nations League this week, Die Mannschaft boss Julian Nagelsmann believes that his side are motivated to go all the way in the competition.
Germany were made to fight for their place in the UEFA Nations League final four after their 5-4 aggregate win against Italy on the 23
rd of March.
Lead with first half-half goals by Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala and Tim Kleindienst, Italy responded through a dramatic comeback in the subsequent half as Moise Kean (2) and Giacomo Raspadori added their names to the scoresheet at the Signal Iduna Park.
However, it was Germany’s 2-1 win at the San Siro just three days prior that ultimately proved to be the decider en-route to the quarter-finals.
Reflecting on his side’s quest in the competition thus far, Nagelsmann feels that the Nations League can be used as a stepping stone towards the Euros.
“Spain proved how important the Nations League can be when they won it before winning the Euros. When I look at the faces of our players, I see motivation and excitement. I’m looking forward to the atmosphere in the stadium,” Nagelsmann said.
