The West African side lost to Nigeria in their last home match in the AFCON qualifiers and the defeat ended their 11-match unbeaten run in Benin.

Meanwhile, Mozambique were held to a 1-1 draw by Rwanda at home in their last competitive game which was the 2023 AFCON qualifier on June 2.

The Mambas are unbeaten in their last two competitive matches having registered one victory and one draw against Rwanda.

However, Mozambique are winless in their last five matches on the road in the AFCON qualifiers having registered three defeats and two draws as the visitors.

"We didn't manage to have the greatest offensive flow," Mozambique coach Chiquinho Conde said.

"On the contrary Rwanda created situations that could hurt our team. But it's a learning experience, and it's a shame we couldn't win here.

"Now it's time to raise our heads and give comfort to the players for everything they did."

The last meeting between Benin and Mozambique was on 12 January 2010.

The two teams played to a 2-2 draw in the 2010 AFCON Group C match which was played at the Estádio Nacional de Ombaka in Angola.
