Valentin Royer vs Alexander Zverev
All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet club
London, England
22 June – 12 July
Following a tense opening at the 2026 Wimbledon showpiece, world number three Alexander Zverev will now face Valentin Royer in the second round as he hopes to repeat his French Open success.
The Frenchman saw out a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over British wild card Harry Wendelken to advance to the next phase of the tournament, while Zverev battled to a 6-4, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 victory over Alexander Blockx last time out.
An experienced Zverez powered his way through Blockx with 48 winners, 21 aces while claiming 84% of his points from his first serve.

After becoming the first German to win a Grand Slam since Borris Becker at the Australian Open in 1996, Zverev will aim to go all the way at Wimbledon after failing to progress beyond the fourth round in all of his prior attempts.
Speaking on his first-round win over Blockx, Zverev expressed that he feels comfortable on the grass, given his success on clay at Roland Garros.
“Roland Garros in the back of your head really helps,” Zverev said.
“I do believe that I can play well on this surface and that I can play well when I get through some matches and I did get through today so I am very happy about that.
“I hope I will have the best result of my career.”
