2022/23 Italian Serie A

Matchday 23

AC Monza v AC Milan

U-Power Stadium
Monza, Italy
Saturday, 18 February 2023
Kick-off is at 19h00

AC Monza will go head to head with AC Milan in an Italian Serie A match at the U-Power Stadium on February 18.

Current Form

The White and Reds secured a narrow 1-0 win over Bologna FC away on February 12 and they are now undefeated in eight matches in the league.

Monza are also enjoying a five-match unbeaten run at home having recorded three consecutive draws and two successive wins at the U-Power Stadium.

On the other hand, Milan claimed a slender 1-0 win over Torino FC at home on February 10 and the win ended their four-match winless run in Serie A.

However, Rossoneri are winless in their last three matches on the road having recorded two consecutive defeats and one draw as the visitors.

What Is At Stake

Monza find themselves placed 10th on the league standings as they are looking to consolidate their spot in the top ten positions in what is their first-ever season in the Serie A.

A victory over Milan would see the White and Reds move up to the seventh spot if other results go their way, but they will be up against a rejuvenated Milan side.

Currently placed fifth on the league table, Milan will climb into the top three spots if they defeat Monza and the other results go their way.

Team News

Gabriel Paletta is nursing a long-term injury and his Monza teammate Carlos Augusto is an injury doubt having picked up an injury ahead of the recent game against Bologna.

Alessandro Florenzi, Mike Maignan and Sergiño Dest are still part of Milan's injury-list as the trio is nursing long-term injuries, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is available for selection.

Key Players

Patrick Ciurria has been involved in more goals than any other Monza player this season having scored three goals and provided five assists in the league.

Monza will be wary of Olivier Giroud who scored his seventh league goal of the season against Torino and it was also the winning goal.

Quotes

“We absolutely must see this as a rebirth. We knew it would be difficult, Torino don’t allow you to build moves cleanly with their high press, but we worked really hard both offensively and defensively," Milan manager Stefano Pioli said.

“We expected a difficult match, an opponent that makes plays hard, that makes you play little but we worked trying to find some holes, then the goal unlocked things for us and things were better to see and we were better than at the beginning of the match. It was needed.

“I felt pain celebrating! . We work every day to get results and we don't succeed. To win the Champions League again would be a good result, but there are so many games to go. It’s an important victory but we must give continuity."

Head-to-Head

Milan emerged as 4-1 winners over Monza in their last meeting in the league which was on 22 October 2022 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

It was their first-ever Serie A meeting.
