Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is confident that a re-energised Relebohile Mofokeng can lead the team to Betway Premiership title.
Mofokeng, who had a wobbly start to the season, is back in good form after recent starts and impressive performances against Marumo Gallants, Durban City and Chippa United.
Pirates last won the league title in 2012 and they want to knock Mamelodi Sundowns, who have lifted the championship trophy on eight successive seasons, off their perch.
Mofokeng scored the winning goal when Pirates beat Gallants 1-0 during the Carling Knockout final at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane and now he has turned his attention to the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Together with Oswin Appollis, Mohau Nkota, Sipho Mbule, Tshepang Moreni, Lyle Foster and Evidence Makgopa, Mofokeng is going to be one of the key attacking players for Bafana Bafana at Afcon in Morocco later in the month.
“You know the president (Mofokeng) is important for our team,” said Ouaddou.
“I love him and his style of play, he is a good guy and top human being. He loves football, I think he dreams about football 24 hours. I cannot say too much about what happened the beginning of the season.”
Ouaddou said Mofokeng and most of his players played a lot of football since last season.
“He played too many games and he did not have enough time to rest. He only had two weeks and the season before this one he played about 40 to 45 games.
“He is not a robot, I can understand he was a bit tired and we gave him some rest and he came back with good fitness. You can see in the last three to four games he was part of the success of the team with some fantastic assists.
“You can see the difference between a fit and tired Relehobile. Even when he is on 70 percent fitness, he can help the team and I cannot imagine when he is 100 percent.
“When he is 100 percent, the president is somebody who can make win the title.”
