Mamelodi Sundowns will head into their next
Betway Premiership in an unfamiliar position when they take on Siwelele in their 13
th league encounter at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Brazilians currently occupy second place in the Betway Premiership following an inconsistent run of results that include three wins, one draw and one loss in their last five outings.
Amid obligations in the CAF Champions League, Sundowns recorded a 1-0 win against TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership last time out, a result that added to their 25 points in 12 matches played so far.
As for Siwelele, the Bloemfontein side are on a run of two wins, two draws and a single defeat in each of their last handful of league ties.
More alarmingly, Siwelele are winless in their last two matches and most recently jotted down a 0-0 draw with Chippa United this past Saturday. Regarding their league position, Siwelele are 12
th on the table, with 15 points gathered in 14 matches completed.
Speaking after Sundowns’ 0-0 draw with MC Alger in the CAF Champions League on 28 November, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso hailed his side’s organization, an attribute he will hope his side continues when they face Siwelele this week.
“We had fantastic organisation, putting good pressure on the opponent and not allowing them too many entries in the box,” Cardoso said.
“We would have liked to have taken three points but we’ll take one and prepare for the future.”
