2025 Africa Cup of Nations
Group B
South Africa v Egypt
Adrar Stadium
Agadir, Morocco
Friday, 26 December 2025
Kick-off is at 17h00
South Africa will go head-to-head with Egypt in their second 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B match at the Adrar Stadium on 26 December.
Current Form
Bafana Bafana claimed a 2-1 win over Angola in their opening Group B match on 22 December and they are unbeaten in their last 27 matches across all competitions under head coach Hugo Broos.
South Africa's unbeaten run consists of 14 wins and 13 draws. Lesotho were handed a 3-0 win over Bafana in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers by FIFA due to an administrative error, but this was not a loss on the pitch and does not break the on-field unbeaten sequence.
Meanwhile, Egypt also secured a 2-1 win over Zimbabwe in their opening Group B match on 22 December and they are unbeaten in their last 15 matches across all competitions under head coach Hossam Hassan.
The Pharaohs' unbeaten run consists of 11 wins and four draws, and it excludes Egypt's results at the recent 2025 FIFA Arab World Cup in Qatar, where North African giants were eliminated in the group stage.
Team News
South Africa and Egypt are yet to report injuries in their respective camps following their opening matches at the 2025 AFCON.
However, Bafana duo Aubrey Modiba and Sphephelo Sithole were booked during the game against Angola. Mahmoud Trezeguet and Marwan Ateya, on the other hand, were shown yellow cards in the game between Egypt and Zimbabwe.
As per the CAF rules, a player who receives two yellow cards (in two different group stage matches) is automatically suspended for the next match (typically the final group game or the first knockout match if qualified).
Quotes
“Egypt are next and will be at another level. But maybe those games are more for us,” Broos said after his side's win over Angola.
“Angola are not a team we know much about. It was also out first game in the tournament and we are still working out where we are good and where we are not. Now we know what we have to do.
“We showed it in the second half and we will try to do it against Egypt. Not losing will be a good result.”
Head-to-Head
The two teams have met 14 times across all competitions since their maiden meeting in November 2015.
South Africa have registered eight victories compared to Egypt's four victories, while two games ended in a draw.
Bafana secured a 3-1 win over the Pharaohs in their last meeting which was in March 2025 in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier played at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia.
As a result, South Africa are undefeated in their last six matches against Egypt, having recorded four wins and two draws.
