There are several teams that have struggled in the Premier League during the current 2021/22 season which makes them early relegation candidates.

Betway picks three of the worst teams in England's top-flight division thus far this term:

The Clarets have endured one of their worst starts to a Premier League season having recorded just one win, seven draws and six defeats from 14 matches.

Burnley are currently placed 18th on the 20-team league standings and they are currently on the longest winless (four matches) run among the bottom three teams.

They are currently showing signs of relegation form having also failed to score in their last two matches and they are the joint-third lowest-scoring team in the competition with 14 goals scored.

Their manager Sean Dyche will be concerned as we enter a busy period in the current term.

The Magpies' struggles in the current season have seen the club part ways with manager Steve Bruce and replace him with Eddie Howe after the club's takeover by a Saudi Arabian-backed consortium.

Newcastle have the longest winless run in the current campaign having gone 14 matches without winning, before they secured their first win of the season against fellow strugglers, Burnley, on December 4.

They are currently placed 19th on the standings having recorded one win, seven draws and seven defeats, and they have the second-worst defensive record (30 goals conceded).

“I am confident we can avoid the drop. I can’t guarantee that. It’s going to take a lot of hard work. The task ahead is huge. It is a very difficult challenge," Howe said.

"I'm under no illusion. We have a very difficult fixture list in December. All we can do is look at the horizon, try win the next game and try be better prepared for the next game after that.

"There is no magic wand. It will take a lot of hard work to instil what we want in the players quickly. Their application so far has been hugely impressive. We will need that to be consistent," he added.

“Judging by the reaction I’ve had it’s been a positive start. I’d like to thank everybody here. “It felt right and it felt like a perfect fit. I've had other options. I feel energised and ready to start work."

The Canaries came into the current season as the 2020/21 English Championship winners, but they had a poor start to the season which led to the dismissal of their long-serving manager Daniel Farke.

The record for the longest losing run in the current term belongs to Norwich as they lost their opening six games in the top flight and Farke has since been replaced by Dean Smith.

They currently placed 20th on the standings having recorded two wins and four draws - level on points with Burnley and Newcastle, but they have the worst defensive record (31 goals conceded) in the league.

The Canaries have also registered the second most defeats (nine) and they have the lowest-scoring team in the competition with a mere eight goals which is a cause for concern for Smith.
