Juventus v Napoli

‪2021-22 Serie A, Matchday 20

Thursday 6 January 2022

Allianz Stadium, Turin

Kick-off at 21:45

Napoli will look for a key win in their Serie A title chase when they face hosts Juventus at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on the evening of Thursday 6 January 2022, kick-off at 21:45.

Juventus endured a poor first half of the season by their standards, to find themselves placed fifth on the log and four points off the Champions League places, though they ended 2021 very strongly by claiming 13 points from a possible 15 in their last five five matches. Their last outing was a 2-0 home win over Cagliari on December 21 in which Moise Kean and Filippo Bernardeschi scored the goals.

“Optimism is always there," Bianconeri coach Max Allegri said. "We have this (league) ranking because we lack the points in games against the top teams. We are behind but we can do nothing but try to win as many games as possible.”

Napoli, meanwhile, saw their form fall away badly in the final weeks of 2021 to leave them in third place – seven points adrift of leaders Internazionale. The Neapolitans won just once in their final five games of the year and ended 2021 with a 1-0 home loss to Spezia on December 21.

“We have to look over our shoulders too, because if we don’t win, then those behind us are going to close in,” said Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti. “Now we have to go home and rest, there is a little fatigue and we are struggling now. Unfortunately, without Victor Osimhen we don’t have as many options for attacking, so we need to always pass it around and unlock defences that way.”

In head-to-head stats, Juventus and Napoli have met in 53 matches across all competitions since 1993, with the Bianconeri claiming 27 wins compared to 16 for the Neapolitans, while 10 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the league earlier this season, at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in September 2021, Napoli claimed a 2-1 home win thanks to goals from Matteo Politano and Kalidou Koulibaly.
