Cricket World Cup 2019: All you need to know about the Proteas


The 15-man Proteas squad travelling to Wales & England for the 2019 World Cup has been named and yes, Hashim Amla has been included in the team. Due to his recent form, many thought he would be excluded from selection however his experience could prove invaluable in the dressing room for some of the young players playing in their first ever World Cup.

Hashim Amla’s inclusion means a gutted Reeza Hendricks misses out on the shortlisted players. The 29-year old had established himself as the replacement to Amla after doing well in his ODI career.

Faf du Plessis will captain the team that’ll have a decent bowling attack with the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Andile Phehlulwayo and Dale Steyn to name a few.

Aiden Makram has also been named in the 15-man squad, the former South Africa Under-19 captain is one of the bright stars in this Proteas team and many have tipped him to mature in this upcoming tournament.
 
To bolster the Proteas bowling attack, Kagiso Rabada, Andile Kagiso Rabada, Andile Phehlukwayo, Lungi Ngidi, Dale Steyn, Anrich Nortje and Dwaine Pretorius have all been named in the squad and JP Duminy, who’s currently recovering from a shoulder injury is also part of the squad traveling to England.

To ensure he recovers well in time for the World Cup, he will miss the opening stages of the CSA T20 Challenge to strengthen his shoulder. JP has admitted that this injury has affected his throwing arm while fielding, and it takes him a few deliveries to warm up when he’s bowling.
