The Blues bounced back to winning ways with a 4-0 thumping of Crystal Palace before the international break. Victory moved Frank Lampard's team up to seventh place on the log standings.

Left-back Ben Chilwell impressed on his Premier League debut for the London club and believes Chelsea's new signings are starting to 'gel'.

For the fans

"There has not really been a pre-season, players are coming back from injuries and there have been a lot of different factors, not just for ourselves but for all the teams, and it is going to take a few weeks for everyone to bed in together," said Chilwell.

"We are working very hard on the training pitch and in this second half especially we showed that it is starting to gel together nicely."

Southampton are on a two-game winning run. The Saints started the season with back-to-back defeats but wins over Burnley and West Brom moved Ralph Hasenhüttl's team up to 11th, while the return of Theo Walcott to the club earlier this month would've further boosted the mood at St Mary's.

The corresponding fixture last season ended in a 2-0 win for the visitors with goals from Michael Obafemi and Nathan Redmond having secured all three points for Southampton.

Victory ended a nine-game unbeaten run against Southampton for the Blues across all competitions.
