Cape Town Blitz look to continue setting the pace

2019 Mzansi Super League

Review/preview 13-24 November

Cape Town Blitz will look to continue setting the pace in the 2019 Mzansi Super League when the next batch of matches is held from Wednesday 20 November to Sunday 24 November.

Blitz have racked up three wins from four outings and retained their grip on top spot this past Sunday when they defeated hosts Durban Heat by 10 runs at Kingsmead, with key performances from fast bowlers Wahab Riaz and Dale Steyn.

“I have played against Wahab a few times but never played in the same team as him,” Steyn said of his partnership with the Pakistan international. “I love left-arm seamers. I love fast bowlers, they get me excited.”

Steyn and Blitz will be looking to keep up the high standards they have set when they head to Port Elizabeth on Wednesday evening to tackle the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants. The Eastern Cape side also come into the clash on the back of a win, having trumped Jozi Stars by nine wickets this past Saturday.

Stars, the defending champions, have simply not gelled as a team and sit at the bottom of the log with four defeats from as many T20 matches in this series. The Johannesburg will look to the likes of Chris Gayle, Temba Bavuma and Kagiso Rabada to lift their games for a clash away to Paarl Rocks on Friday evening.

The week’s upcoming games also includes Tshwane Spartans v Durban Heat in Centurion on Thursday (with both teams hoping for clear skies after two ‘no result’ finishes each due to rain), as well as Saturday’s showdown between Giants and Heat at St George’s Park.

Sunday features two derbies, as Blitz host Rocks at Newlands in Cape Town from 10:00 in the morning, while the afternoon match promises to be a feisty thriller between Gauteng rivals Jozi Stars and Tshwane Spartans at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
