George Russell will be keen to bounce back strongly at the 2026 Miami Grand Prix and close the gap to the leader in the championship battle.
Most recent race
The Mercedes driver finished fourth in the Japanese Grand Prix on 29 March, the most recent round of the 2026 Formula One World Championship.
Russell led at one stage but was hit by unfortunate Safety Car timing and battery issues, ultimately losing positions and scoring 12 points in Japan.
Formula One ambitions
The British driver sits second in the World Drivers' Championship standings with 63 points after three races.
Russell trails team-mate Kimi Antonelli (72 points) but remains firmly in title contention as Mercedes dominate the early season.
Why Russell could win in Miami
Russell has strong history at the Miami International Autodrome, including his first podium there in 2025.
The Sprint weekend format plays to his qualifying strengths and he will be motivated to stop Antonelli’s momentum on a track where Mercedes showed excellent pace last season.
What did he say?
"Yeah, feeling great ahead of Miami. It's been, for us as a team, an amazing start to the year. For me personally, it started off really, really well," Russell said ahead of the 2026 Miami GP.
"Had a challenging race in Japan, but it's a hell of a long season, and the most important thing is we got a really good package beneath us. I'm feeling good, feeling confident. This small mini break has been a good reset, and I'm ready to go for it again. I really enjoy the circuit in Miami. It's fast, it's flowing.
"You then have that really tight section towards the end of the track. Usually lots of good overtaking opportunities. It's hot. There's been a lot of potential bad weather around in the years gone by, but it's always seemingly just missed us. So that's also something that can play a part in Miami."
