Arsenal will chase a berth in the UEFA Champions League final when they welcome Atletico Madrid to the Emirates Stadium in London for the second leg of their semifinal tie on the evening of Tuesday 5 May 2026. Kick-off is at 21:00.
What happened in the first leg?
The teams met at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid on Wednesday 29 April. Arsenal claimed the lead just before the half-time interval via a penalty from Viktor Gyokeres. Atletico hit back via a penalty of their own, scored by Julian Alvarez in the 56th minute. The Gunners had another penalty awarded late in the game for a challenge on Eberechi Eze, but the spot kick was scratched off after a VAR review.
What do Arsenal need to triumph?
A win of any kind will see Arsenal triumph on aggregate, while a draw of any score will see the match go to an extra time period of 30 minutes, followed by a penalty shootout if necessary. The Gunners are hoping to return to the Champions League final for just the second time, having first appeared in the 2005-06 edition when they were defeated by Barcelona.
