Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid

Wednesday, April 25th
Allianz Arena, Munich
Kick-off at 19:45 (7:45pm) GMT

Despite all their difficulties this season, Los Blancos are one step away from reaching their third Champions League final in as many seasons and an unprecedented hat-trick of titles. With Cristiano Ronaldo hitting peak form again at just the right time, its not hard to stake a claim for Zinedine Zidane’s men claiming the top prize once more.

The Portuguese forward who scored a 97th minute penalty in the second leg of their quarter-final against Juventus, which knocked the Italian giants out, followed that up with a late equaliser in La Liga as Madrid were held to a draw at home by Athletic Bilbao last time out. With 14 goals in his last 10 outings since Los Blancos’ last defeat in the league, away to Espanyol, he has taken his remarkable tally to 42 for the campaign from just 39 appearances.

Jupp Heynckes has the luxury of being able to rest some of his star players ahead of their semi-final with Real Madrid, having wrapped up the league in record time with Bayern Munich upon his return, replacing Carlo Ancelotti midway through the season. They extended their current winning streak domestically to five matches, scoring 24 goals in the process which included a whopping 6-2 victory over Leverkusen in the DFB Cup semi-final, by beating Hannover 3-0 at the weekend. Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller are the men in form at the minute having bagged four goals apiece in their last three appearances respectively while 30-year-old Sandro Wagner has netted three in his last four.

Bayern are looking to reach the showpiece final, which will be played in Kiev on the 26th of May, for the first time sincethey last lifted the trophy back in 2013 with a 2-1 win over fellow Germans Borussia Dortmund. They have been knocked out by Real Madrid in two of the four seasons since, first in the semi-finals a year later before only managing to reach the last eight last season before they were dumped out.

Real Madrid have come away victorious on each of their last two visits to the Allianz, Cristiano Ronaldo twice on the scoresheet in 2017 in a 2-1 win before completing a fine hat-trick in the return leg as the tie headed into extra-time for Los Blancos fifth win in-a-row over Bayern Munich.
