Round 29 fixtures

2 September 2020

The 2019-20 Absa Premiership season will play out its penultimate round on Wednesday 2 September 2020, with eight matches kicking off simultaneously at 18:00 CAT at venues across Gauteng.

All eyes will be on the title race between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, after the teams both succumbed to defeats – 1-0 against Bidvest Wits and Baroka FC respectively – on Sunday, leaving the clubs level on 53 points at the top.

The Amakhosi take on Chippa United at Orlando Stadium, while the Brazilians are away to bottom-of-the-log Polokwane City at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

“What we're talking about is a disaster result," a dejected Middendorp said after the loss to the Clever Boys. "But we have to [pick ourselves up], two games to go of course we have to hope something will come out of the games. I personally hope we can put the players into the right mentality towards the next game, in particular Chippa on the second we will try again, we will go again all out, try to score, try to win this game.”

Elsewhere, AmaZulu will chase a second successive win and safety from relegation when they face Stellenbosch at Tuks Stadium in Pretoria. Usuthu defeated fellow strugglers Black Leopards 1-0 this past weekend thanks to striker Bongi Ntuli’s early goal.

Leopards themselves will have the unenviable task of trying to beat a Wits team which has put together a nine-game unbeaten run in the league and look determined to go out on a high before their franchise is taken over by Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, while Baroka will look to hand SuperSport a second straight loss when the teams meet at Bidvest Stadium.

Golden Arrows will look to end their long winless drought when they host Bloemfontein Celtic, Cape Town City will look to secure a top eight place with a win over Highlands Park at Dobsonville Stadium, and Orlando Pirates will chase a second victory since the restart when the tackle Maritzburg United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
