Mike De Kock's Horse Racing Picks: Durbanville and Scottsville

This weekend’s racing calendar is packed with international highlights, backed by standalone local meetings on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday sees a meeting at Hollywoodbets Durbanville, and on Sunday the action goes to HWB Scottsville.

Betway will be offering the best odds in South Africa, and on racing abroad, where the spotlight falls on Group racing at Doncaster (Friday and Saturday) and Leopardstown (Saturday), with Malaysia staging a Group feature where South African jockey Kaiden Brewer has seven rides on the day, including in the feature contest.

Canada’s Turf Champions Day at Woodbine will be broadcast live on Saturday. This meeting features last season’s South African Equus Champion Three-Year-Old colt, One Stripe. Now trained by Graham Motion, he will be lining up in the US$1-million Group 1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile under Hall of Fame rider John Velazquez (off at 23:39 SA time). Racing continues on Sunday, when The Curragh hosts a high-class programme and trainer Aiden O’Brien looks set to dominate proceedings with three star runners Composing (Race 3, 1400m), Gstaad (Race 5, 1400m) and Illinois (Race 6, 2800m.
Mike and Mathew de Kock have runners at HWB Scottsville on Sunday, and Mat has also given us his comments for racing on Wednesday, below:

HWB Scottsville, Sunday 14 September:

Race 1, 1000m: “Bombardier Boy is showing us lots of speed at home. How he will fare depends on his greenness, but he shows enough pace to be involved in the outcome. He has a top three or four chance.”

Race 4, 1600m: “We can’t split Sunnybills Ferrari and Buddy Boy at home. Both have improved from their respective debuts and both will like the extra ground. Eachway chances to the pair.”

Race 5, 1600m:Ingqwele is taking on a tough field, but his rating is dropping and this is his third run after a rest. It is also his right trip. We’re hoping to see some improvement. Officer In Command is in more or less in the same boat. He improved last time when racing wide and this is also his third run rested. His rating is down, and he has won off an MR 85, but he has a few to beat. We’re looking for a decent run.”

Race 6, 1750m:Gotta Go Eddie ran a big race last time. He is back over the same course and trip and has a good draw, he is in good form. He is probably one of our best on the day, along with the pair in Race 4.”

HWB Greyville, Wednesday 17 September:

Race 3, 1800m: “Cheerscheerscheers comes from the same formline (Royal Sword) as Sunnybills Ferrari on Sunday, so it will be interesting to see how it works out. He goes up in trip and that should suit, he has a Place chance.”

Race 4, 2000m:Bristol Hercules and Trois Trois Quatre are both in good form and it’s hard to pick between the two, they both have winning chances. We’re looking forward to see how Bristol Hercules performs over 2000m, we think he will enjoy it. Trois Trois Quatre is well exposed, has won twice over this distance and normally runs well in small fields.”

Race 8, 1200m:Icy Blast ran a cracker when returning to 1200m last time, second in quite a competitive field. He seems to like Muzi Yeni’s riding and he should be a big runner off a handy weight, and from a nice inside draw.”
