2021/22 English Premier League

Matchday 29

Crystal Palace v Manchester City

Selhurst Park
London, England
Monday, 14 March 2022
Kick-off is at 22h00

Patrick Vieira will be looking to mastermind another win against his former employers when Crystal Palace welcome Manchester City to Selhurst Park on Monday, March 14.

The Frenchman, who won the FA Cup during his one and only season with City in 2010/11, guided the Eagles to a shock 2-0 victory over the defending champions on October 30.

Palace's form has improved after a poor start to 2022, where they went six games without a win before beating Watford 4-1 at Vicarage Road on February 23.

The south Londoners drew 1-1 with Burnley and then triumphed 2-0 at Wolves last weekend to climb into the top-half of the table in 10th place.

Vieira was delighted with the performance of his players in the Back Country against a team known for their ability to restrict the opposition.

"We showed character, we showed togetherness, we showed organisation and we had so many blocks. That was important for us," he said after the clash at Molineux.

"This is why this performance made me really pleased, because we knew how difficult it would be to make chances.

"Today we had the perfect game in possession because we created a lot of chances, managed to score two goals, especially against a team who don't give a lot away."

The Citizens remain on course to retain their title after Sunday's 4-1 derby success against Manchester United.

A second consecutive victory saw Pep Guardiola's side maintain the six-point gap to second-placed Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

Guardiola has often spoken about the challenge of winning the Premier League and he anticipates that the title race will go down to the wire with lots of twists and turns to come.

"I have a feeling many things are going to happen. Tight games are going to happen," the Spaniard said after the derby.

"We are six points ahead but it is a mistake because they (Liverpool) have one more game to play.

"If we are stable mentally and, hopefully, recover Nathan Ake as soon as possible and the other guys to come back, hopefully we will be there until the end. This is my dream."
