Here are Mike de Kock’s runner comments for the race meeting at Turffontein on Saturday, 15 January:

Race 4: Forever Mine

“He is starting to work better and warrants consideration, though it is a high class field. His wide draw will force us to change tactics and come from behind instead of going to the front and we’ll be hoping it works for him.”

Race 5: Ablaan and Battleoftrafalgar

“We freshened Ablaan up following his two wins and he’ll improve with this run. I think it will be tough for him to make it three in a row off top weight, but he is in a good space so add him to your exotics. Battleoftrafalgar has been showing a need for 1400m and he drops even further in ratings. We’ve expected more, but he’s a horse that shows good work and I think he’s capable of running a good race any day now. Put him into play.”

Race 8: Cleaver Greene

“Here we have a nice young horse, he’s going into the deep end after his debut win, and now to a competitive sprint handicap. It’s a quality race with lots of speed and it will be a good test for him to see where we stand. But we’d like to see what we have here. He is better than his rating of 82 in my opinion, and deserves inclusion in all the exotics. Looking forward to see him run.”
