As one of the favourites to win the Valero Texas Open this year, Collin Morikawa will hope to look past his injury troubles at the Oaks Course ahead of Thursday’s tee-off.
What to know about Collin Morikawa
After claiming the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM in February, the 29-year-old is aiming to secure his eighth win on the PGA Tour.
Morikawa turned professional in 2019, making his debut at the 2019 RBC Canadian Open where he finished in 14th place. Then, during the John Deere Classic in July 2019, Morikawa finished tied for fourth position and subsequently earned his PGA Tour Membership. The American secured his first PGA Tour win two weeks later after fending off Troy Merritt at the Barracuda Championship.
Since then, Morikawa has won the Workday Charity Open, PGA Championship, WGC-Workday Championship, The Open Championship and Zozo Championship respectively.
Regarded as one of the best golfers in the world today, Morikawa was ranked at 2nd in the world as of 29 March 2026.
What did he say
Morikawa’s last appearance was at the Players’ Championship, but he was forced to withdraw owing to a back injury. Speaking on his injury troubles, Morikawa revealed that he felt fine until the second hole.
“I felt fine in warm-up,” he said.
“Like there have been no signs of back problems. And teed it up on 11, and took one practice swing, and I just knew it was gone. Like I just had the feeling before when it happened.
“And I just, I can’t swing through it. Trust me, I would play if I could. It’s just the worst thing in the world.”
