Mike de Kock was born on Valentine’s Day 14 February 1964, the back drop to a love affair that began at the now defunct Alberton Newmarket Racecourse during his upbringing and has culminated in over 125 Grade 1 wins, the most ever by a South African trainer.
Now, he has joined the Betway Squad as an ambassador bringing his wealth of experience in the
horse racing field.
Career
Despite not having a family history in horse racing, Mike de Kock’s love for the sport began at an early age during his childhood. He began his training career in South Africa at the age of 25 and soon after earned his first Grade 1 win with a filly called Evening Mist.
He soon won his maiden trainer championship in the 1998/99 season and has since repeated the feat numerous times on local soil. He has also ventured internationally to Hong Kong, United States of America, England and Singapore to name a few, where he earned numerous victories.
Achievements
Apart from holding the record for the most Grade 1 wins in South Africa, de Kock has also trained over 3,400 winners who have won in multiple countries spanning several continents including South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Singapore, United Kingdom and the US. He was also named Champion Trainer of South Africa at the annual Equus Awards on several occasions.
His major race wins include the Durban July, Sun Met, Summer Cup and much more.
